Music
This picture is made up of three different photos. The songs I chose all talk about roads and sunsets and made me think of road trips. I used the picture I took of my cousin playing with the music volume and cut out the windshield in photoshop. In the windshield space I put a different picture I edited. In the rearview mirror I put a picture of a sunset I took later that day. I wanted it to have a roadtrip hippie feel like the songs I chose.

Portraits
To edit this picture I made the whole thing black and white. After I used the brush tool to add contrast to the background so that she stood out more.
To edit this one I edited the picture as it was in black and white. I used the brush tool to make her in color. After I upped the exposure and highlights to make her brighter. I wanted to make her stand out more.
To edit this one I used the brush in Lightroom to lower the saturation in the background. I cropped it to take out unnecessary parts of the background.
To edit this one I upped the brightness and vibrance so that she stood out against the dark background.
In these pictures I was trying to communicate my friends personality. She's super cool and adventurous and I wanted to make these pictures show that. We went and walked down Telegraph in Berkeley and I took pictures along the way. The first images shows her love for music which I thought was important because it's such a big part of her life. The second one shows her easygoingness self and the third her love for photography. The third one is important too because in the background it says "dig in. pitch in." which is something that she follows and is important to her. The forth one I wanted to emphasize on her outfit and style.

Connection to Place
I took all of my pictures at the Martinez marina. I went with some of my cousins, so in order to connect I walked behind them and we made our way farther down towards the water. When we got there we sat on a bench for awhile and watched and listened, before going on an adventure. I lagged behind and took some pictures of them also. I decided to go around 6ish because I hoped to get a lighting that would make the pictures more interesting.

For this one I was over by the lake/pond thing next to the parking lot. I To edit this picture I gave it a yellowish tint and made the shadows darker. I played around with the exposure so that the light on the wings looked better. After I moved it to photoshop and used the burn tool to darken where the sun reflects on the water so that it wouldn't be quite so white and less distracting. The feeling that I got and hoped to convey in this picture was sound. The area and water was very quiet and peaceful like.
I took this picture near the pond also around 6:00. I gave this a yellow tint in lightroom and used the direct positive filter. I used the dodge tool in light room to lighten the bench a little bit so that it had a more recognizable shape. I also used the dodge tool to lighten the bottom areas around the bench. I wanted the sun on the bottle to be the main focus so I upped the saturation so that the sun had more of an effect on the picture.
I took this along the trail at the marina towards the water. I edited in lightroom by adding more contrast to it because it gave the bridge more detail and made the greens in the background stand out. I slightly upped the saturation to make the color stand out.
I took this picture on a bridge down closer towards the water. I wanted the bridge to be more recognizable so I lightened the bottom left corner and used a preset that made the sun a rounder shape and lightened the photo. I thought this photo showed texture and touch.

Paper Project
In taking this picture I folded the paper back and forth, like you would make a fan. Then I held it up against the sky so that it circled around the moon. To edit I added a bluish tint and upped the exposure. I then made the shadows really dark so that it blacked out the background completely and upped the whites to give it contrast. I cropped out a lot of the bottom to off center the paper, and to crop out my hand. Lastly, I upped the clarity.
In this photo I crumbled the paper into a ball and started pulling different pieces of it out. To edit I gave it a yellowish tint and made the shadows darker in lightroom so that it gave it contrast and made the background completely black. Then I moved it to photoshop and used the burn tool on the right side of the picture so that the white was less distracting, but still contrasted with the shadows.
