Repeating Flash

To make this photo we used repeating flash. On the bulb setting we were able to make the exposure as long as we wanted. We set the camera up on a tripod 2-4 feet away from the subject. We had her move her arms up and down and the repeating flash makes it look like she has a lot of arms. Because it was really hard for her to keep her head perfectly still, her face is not in focus but her bottom half is.

Painting With Light

The message I was trying to send with this photo was a contrast between simplicity and chaos. The umbrella I thought created a sense of mystery and gave it a story. In the background there is a lot going on and in the foreground the figure is simple. To make this image I filled the inside of a whisk with steel wool and attached the end to a dog leash. I had a friend light the steel wool with a match and swing the whisk in a circle. With a long exposure I was able to capture the light trails of the sparks which gave it this effect. To edit I made the blacks darker in light room, and used the clone stamp tool in photoshop to take out some of the light trails I didn't want in order to get a cleaner picture.
